Project Overview

Founder & Managing Partner, John Murray served as EVP & Chief Bid Officer for the United States’ effort to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Chicago.

For more than three years, John was responsible for the bid’s core strategic deliverables, including the Official Bid submission, the IOC Evaluation Committee visit to Chicago, Beijing 2008 Olympic Games delegation operations, and participation in the 2009 Olympic Congress in Copenhagen.

Strategy Consulting

Recruited thousands of individuals, businesses, civic organizations, and celebrities to drive widespread support

Developed and maintained 3-year roadmap to successfully deliver all critical milestones for bid effort, identifying key risks and mitigators

Leveraged pro bono support from leading professional service firms to assist core bid functions

Business Development

The Bid broke multiple records for fundraising efforts, including single-night totals of $9.4 million and $12 million in consecutive years

Cash and pro bono contributions totaled more than $150 million over three years and left a surplus that continues to fund social programs

Careful management of production and other costs resulted in majority of deliverables coming in under-budget

Production Management

Produced dozens of presentations, site visits, and events, including IOC Visit that included coordination of 2,000 staff & volunteers, and sessions with 300 experts, politicians, and panelists over three days

Produced final presentation to IOC involving more than 500 staff, vendors and VIPs, including the President and First Lady of the United States

Produced multiple donors events, including gala dinner hosted by Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama in Copenhagen
